Gratitude

June 23rd.  Yesterday, Brooke graduated from high school.  Today, we had a graduation party.  These events really drove home the many ways we are incredibly lucky and blessed.

We threw a joint party with the Rascoes, who's daughter is among Brooke's oldest and dearest friends.  We see the world in a very similar ways as them, and hope that we stay in touch beyond high school graduation.

It wasn't surprising that family did so much to help us pull off the graduation party.  Whenever an important family event occurs, everyone pitches in together without batting an eyelash.  Chairs, tables and tents are gathered.  People set aside time for food prep and setup.  At the end of the evening, everyone pitches in once again for the cleanup.  Family put in a tremendous amount of work, and for this we are immensely grateful.

We have great neighbors and always enjoy their company.  However, we didn't expect all of the help they offered as we prepared for today's party.  The Bogues cleared part of their property for parking and brought tables and a tent to our house.  Mike and Kathy, and our neighbor Fritch, also offered up part of their land for parking.  Chris had a port-a-potty delivered and offered up parking on his property.  The Rozelles also offered up parking on their land.  I hope we have the opportunity to do for them as they have done for us.

The party itself was a great pleasure. We are so fortunate to have so many friends and family who are so much fun to spend time with.  On top of that, our daughters have friends who are a joy to have around.  The only regret we had today is that the day went by too fast.

Finally, we are blessed with two amazing daughters.  A day doesn't go by when Kathy and I don't look at each other and wonder how lucky we are to have them in our lives.  They are both good, solid people and are a ton of fun to be around.

All of this goodness makes the vitriol in the media is baffling.  When we look at the people we are surrounded by, it is obvious that people are naturally good.

Tomorrow will be a day of errands as we return people's belongings and return our home to it's more settled condition.  We will also be saying bye to Aunt Nancy, as she returns to Seattle from her all too brief visit.  Then we pack up for the big trip to Alaska and the Yukon.

Alaska and the Yukon.  Sounds like adventure, no?
